The natural surroundings of farm land and wildlife became my first inspiration but I relied upon my imagination to assist me in the direction I wanted to go. My goal was set. Produce high quality, realistic scenes and animals. I began entering various contests in sculpture, themed poster design, and local art shows. As my experience grew, so did the recognition and collection of many first place ribbons and certificates including Best of Show Award in a local museum.
From elementary school through high school, I had illustrated many designs for T-shirts, flyers, and brochures.
Taking art instruction at MO State University in Springfield, MO, I began poster illustrations for commercial promotions for several fast food chains including Taco Bell, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Hardees and the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Through these commissions, I began winning several commercial logo design contracts through many small businesses in southern Missouri and eventually began working free-lance design for a local print shop in West Plains, MO. Paralleling the time frame, I also taught advanced painting classes at the Yellow House Cultural Arts Center also in West Plains, MO. One of the pinnacle winnings was a logo design contest for the American Legion where I won 1st place in state.
While producing custom acrylic paintings and logo designs for hundreds of private commissions, the dawn of the computer age increased both recognition and orders. Eventually I began illustrating children's books and designing billboards as well as smaller commercial signage for local small businesses. While living in NY state, I worked for Hardinge Group, a lead manufacturer of metal cutting solutions and was given the opportunity to design a logo for global applications for the company.
Moving to Clarksville, TN in July of 2014, I had my first taste of success winning Best of Show at the Downtown Artist Co-Op plus an honorable mention in the same show. The following month I won first place in the Smith-Trayhern Mansion River Walk Art Show.
Currently, I am working on personal inventory for my first exhibit into the Tennessee Art League, (TAL), in an upcoming show in April, 2015.
The goal I had set years ago, has now been achieved.
